Yeah, if you haven't figured me out by now, you should know I can't stand food writers that "Play for Pay."  My philosophy has always been, you get a bite, if the place sucks then you either don't write about it or you warn others about your experience.  More often than not, you can find a decent thing or two about any place (tablecloth was clean, hot dude/chick working behind the counter, good beer selection, whatever).  

Still, when times are tight, people will bow down and genuflect before the Food Deities, but then turnaround and take some cash in the form of advertising on their blog/magazine or coupons/vouchers for a free bowl of soup and a golf hat.  Whatever.  God bless 'em and God Bless America.  

This is how we get the infamous "Best of" lists in Korea and other places.  Who pays me early and often will get up on my Top Ten Places to Buy a Cass Beer or The Best of the Best of the Very Best Gutter Kebab Carts in Itaewon.  Nonetheess, being a guy who tries to preserve some semblance of credibility, I don't take cash for my food blogs and I don't take American Express.  Which means I don't do "Best ofs."

Except today.

Because today I plunked down 9,000 won in single notes and loose change for the W Burger Jumbo Burger that changed my life in Seoul in more ways than one.   First, I never used to trust guys like ZenJoe or DanTheMan.  They like different food, different tastes than I do.  So I laughed aloud when I saw some article posted up in a Burger Joint about how great W Burger was.

"Bullshit," I mumbled to the cashier at Burger King.  "You guys got the best burger on the market for the price."  Oh, was I so wrong.  Hats off to those my two food blogging contemporaries, cuz as different as those guys are, because they both agree with me on one thing, The W Burger is for real.  The W Burger MAY very well be the best burger in Seoul right now.
